Clayton Kershaw outdueled Max Scherzer in a standout pitching duel, and Mookie Betts delivered a clutch, three-RBI performance—including a two-run homer—to power the Dodgers past the Blue Jays, 5–1, on Friday night.
In a rare showdown between the newest members of the 3,000-strikeout club, both aces pitched six solid innings: Kershaw surrendered one run on seven hits, striking out four, while Scherzer allowed two runs on six hits, fanning five and walking three.
Betts broke the 2–1 score in the fifth with a two-run shot after Shohei Ohtani ripped a ground-rule double. That was Betts’ first homer since July 5.
The Dodgers added three more runs in the seventh: Betts drove in another, Ohtani scored on a bases-loaded walk to Will Smith, and Teoscar Hernández followed with a sacrifice fly.
Ohtani ended the night with three hits and two runs scored, while the Blue Jays had claimed an early 1–0 lead via an Addison Barger RBI single, snapping their three-game win streak in this division-leader showdown
