South Dakota State quarterback who’s been making waves in the FCS lately Mark Gronowski just announced that he’s looking to enter the NCAA transfer portal, which is pretty big news. When he pops up in the portal, he’s gonna be the top available QB out there. I mean, the guy has an impressive record of 49 wins and only 6 losses as a starter, plus he led the Jackrabbits to not one but two national titles.
But here’s the kicker: Gronowski is also weighing his options about going pro.
“I’m trying to weigh all my options to do what’s best for me and my career.” He told ESPN,
He sounds pretty confident about possibly heading to the NFL, saying, “If there’s opportunities that help my family, I’ll change my mind.” It’s like he’s playing this smart by keeping all his doors open. You know, like how Cam Ward did last year? He checked out his options too before ultimately picking Miami.
Gronowski’s achievements are seriously impressive. Those 49 wins? They tie him with Easton Stick for the most in FCS history, and the overall record is just one more at 50, held by Kellen Moore from Boise State. Plus, he led SDSU to back-to-back national titles in 2022 and 2023 and even snagged the Walter Payton award for the top FCS offensive player this past season.
He’s thrown for over 10,300 yards and 93 touchdowns throughout his career, and he’s not one-dimensional either. He can run, racking up 1,767 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns. Definitely a dual-threat guy.
This decision comes right after his coach, Jimmy Rogers, left for Washington State, which adds another layer to all of this. So, you can bet he’ll be a hot commodity for any teams in need of a quarterback. Not to mention, NFL scouts have their eyes on him because of all those wins and insane stats. Once he enters the portal, he’ll definitely be the most experienced QB there with nearly 1,200 attempts and a completion rate over 63%.
It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up. What do you think? College or NFL?
